Class Information

Children need a coat every day, as we learn outdoors whatever the weather. Please also provide your child with a pair of wellies that they can leave in school. Please ensure that PE kits are kept in school as we have PE on Tuesdays. Children will bring these home each half term so they can be washed.

Children are encouraged to bring a bottle of water (no flavoured water or squash) to school to keep in the classroom; this should be in addition to their packed lunch drink. Snack money is £4 per half term, payable during the first week of each half term.

Children need to bring their reading folders to school every day, as we listen to them read at every opportunity.

Please read with your child every day, and practise their phonics and key words. Look for numbers and shapes when you are out and about , and count items together. Each half term, children will be given one more specific homework task. You will be notified of the task on the half-termly homework sheet.

This half term our topic is 'Do you want to be friends?' We have thought about what it means to be a good friend, how some people are special to us, and how some people can help us.

Mrs Riggott and Mr Rogers came to talk to us about how they can help us to stay safe when we are crossing the road, and they took us out for a walk to practise.

Mrs King came to speak to us about how she prepares healthy food for us.

PC Matt came to tell us how the emergency services can help us when we are in trouble, and he let us explore his police van!

Nick told us how in his job as a nurse he helps people to get better when they are unwell.

We found out how the RNLI help us when we are in trouble in the sea. We decided to raise money to help them, so we made some fish fingers and held our own fish supper! Marc and Stormy Stan from the RNLI at Barry Dock came to school to collect the money we raised. Many thanks to all the families who donated.

We learned all about Diwali, the Hindu festival of light. We invited our families in to share our learning.

We were stars and angels in our Christmas concert.

We wore our Christmas jumpers to school!

Diolch Mrs King and the kitchen staff for our delicious Christmas dinner.

We went to Greenmeadow Farm to visit Father Christmas. We also went on a tractor ride and watched an animal nativity. We had a great day out!

Our topic this half term is 'Will you read me a story?' The big, bad wolf came to tell us the true story of The Three Little Pigs!

We visited Porthkerry woods to take part in a Hansel and Gretel adventure! We saw the woodcutter chopping logs with his axe, then we walked through the woods collecting things in our buckets. When we got to the log circle, we showed each other the forest items we had collected and thought about whether they would be good for making a trail. Then we used bird seed to make another type of trail. We found the witch's cottage! Mel the ranger crept inside and found some treats to share with us. Roedd yn taith bendigedig!

Our topic this term is 'Do cows drink milk?' Local dairy farmer Abi Reader and two of her farmer friends came to visit us at school. We milked the wooden milking cow, learned how to take care of cows, made butter and explored the tractor. Diolch yn fawr, we had great fun!

We enjoyed celebrating St David's Day, even though the snow meant it was a week late!

Our topic for the first half of the summer term is 'Why do ladybirds have spots?' We visited Dow Corning's nature reserve and did a nature walk, a minibeast hunt and pond dipping.

We had great fun on Sports Day!

We had great fun in the sunshine paddling, building sandcastles, playing boules, throwing beach balls and riding 'donkeys'! The ice creams were delicious!
