Colcot Primary School

Croeso i Dosbarth y Gafr

The teachers of Class 9 are Mrs Gronow and Mr O’Connell who are supported by our LSA Miss Curtis.

In the Spring Term our new topic will be Pharaohs. We will be travelling back 5000 years to the dusty realms of Ancient Egypt. We will cruise along The River Nile, entering a world of mysteries and curses, mummies and kings.

We will be discovering Egypt and its fascinating culture and will be unravelling the secrets of ancient tombs, using historical sources and old artefacts. We will also be visiting the Egypt Centre at Swansea University to take part in learning workshops and learn more about Ancient Egypt.

Here is some more useful information for Class 9:

Your child will receive one piece of homework each Friday which will either have a literacy or numeracy focus. This will need to be completed and handed in by the following Wednesday. They will have their learning log with homework tasks that they can earn raffle tickets for completing each week.  In addition to this homework the children will be expected to read at home frequently and where possible with an adult. Spellings will also be handed out weekly and the children are encouraged to use the Look, Cover, Write, Check strategy to learn them for their test the following week. Every Friday the children will also be given a times tables test. You can help them at home by testing their mental recall of these important number facts.

The children are required to wear a change of kit for PE lessons. We encourage the children to wear appropriate kit and footwear. Our class usually have PE on a Monday but we would like the children to bring their PE kit in on a Monday and take it home on Fridays in case opportunities for additional PE sessions arise.

We would like to remind you that as a healthy school our policy is that the children bring in a healthy snack daily from Monday to Thursday. However, we are continuing our ‘Free choice Friday’. Water bottles should be brought in so that your child is kept hydrated throughout the day.

We made vegetable heads for our homework, as part of our Allotment topic.  Which is your favourite?

We created recipes, looked at budgets and made a healthy food product to sell to the school.  We even made a good profit!

Our family session was a huge success! Thank you to all the parents who came to help us make some fantastic castles!

Our parents joined us for an arty family session.  We used florists wire to create 3D sculptures of flowers as part of our Allotments topic.  It was fiddly but see our fantastic finished products below!  They look fantastic on display in our classroom.
