Colcot Primary School

Croeso i Ddosbarth Swricatiaid

The teachers of Class 10 are Miss Bosomworth and Mrs Jarvis who are supported by our LSA Miss Curtis.

In the Spring Term our new topic will be Pharaohs. We will be travelling back 5000 years to the dusty realms of Ancient Egypt. We will cruise along The River Nile, entering a world of mysteries and curses, mummies and kings.

We will be discovering Egypt and its fascinating culture, and will be unravelling the secrets of ancient tombs, using historical sources and old artefacts. We will also be visiting the Egypt Centre at Swansea University to take part in learning workshops and learn more about Ancient Egypt.

Some useful information regarding Class 10:

Homework

Your child will receive homework each Friday which will have a project focus. This will need to be completed and handed in by the following Wednesday. In addition to this homework the children will be expected to read at home frequently and where possible with an adult. Spellings will also be handed out weekly and the children are encouraged to use the Look, Cover, Write, Check strategy to learn them for their test the following week. Every Friday the children will also be given a times tables test. There may also be mathematical facts and strategies to learn and practise each week to help with the learning in the classroom. You can help them at home by testing their mental recall of these important number facts.

PE

The children are required to wear a change of kit for PE lessons. We encourage the children to wear appropriate kit and footwear. Our class usually have PE on a Monday but we would like the children to bring their PE kit in on a Monday and take it home on Friday in case opportunities for additional PE sessions arise.

Snacks

We would like to remind you that as a healthy school our policy is that the children bring in a healthy snack daily from Monday to Thursday. However, we are continuing our ‘Free choice Friday’. Water bottles should be brought in so that your child is kept hydrated throughout the day.

We really enjoyed creating our Christmas craft for the Fayre.  Our 'family lollipop stick' photo frames were a huge success.

We learned lots of new information and facts about Gwenllian, Warrior Princess and the Norman Invasion of 1066.

We have carried out lots of Science investigations, finding out the factors that effect dissolving rates.
